Occupy wall street: gaining momentum

New York Police Officers arrested approximately 700 of the Occupy Wall Street protestors on the Brooklyn Bridge Sunday evening; But that hasn’t stopped the movement from spreading to other places across the Country.
Los Angeles, Colorado, Boston, Chicago and some smaller communities are just a few of the cities who are calling for change.

The protests, which were started by the group calling themselves the 99%, began September 17th with only a few individuals, occupying the City’s financial district, but quickly grew to larger numbers. a sample list of demands by the 99% include a restoration to a living wage by re-imposing trade tariffs on imported goods, raising minimum wage to twenty dollars an hour, a single payer health care system, a guaranteed living wage, and free college education. The protests were largely ignored by the mainstream media until political filmmaker Michael Moore and actress Susan Sarandon showed their support.

The Occupy Wall Street protests also have the support of the New York City Transit Union, who are showing their support for the 99% by refusing to transport any protestors that have been arrested by New York Police, and the Nurses Union.

When word of the Protest started to spread, both via Facebook and online news forums such as Reddit.com, the cause gained massive support, with people sending donations and even ordering food to be sent for those protesting. Although those that do not support the 99% would simply go away, it would seem the protestors will not leave without seeing true change. With the attention the Occupy Wall Street protests are finally getting from the mainstream media, they seem to have the attention of the 1% they have been trying to get, and that means they may get what they want this time.
