The continual movement, dubbed ‘Occupy Wall Street‘ or simply ‘Occupy’, continues to permeate cities, towns and campuses throughout the United States. The initial protests were centered specifically around Wall Street and financial concerns. The movement transformed over the past few months and has branched out to include other issues impacting citizens throughout the United States. The majority of the Occupy protests have remained peaceful demonstrations, though a few pockets of violence and unrest have been experienced.
One of the most recent incidents involved protesters at the campus of the University of California at Berkley. the students of Berkley protested and were documented as being peaceful in their methods. At one point during the protest, campus security used pepper spray at close range and sprayed the protesters as they sat quietly and still. The incident caused a backlash against campus police and have called in to question the decision making process for such police behavior on college students who were, by definition, obeying the law.
The continued upheaval associated with the Occupy movement continues to fracture portions of the country, and the incident at UC Berkley, well documented through film and photographs, further adds another wound to the already bruised financial and social situation in the United States as the country continues to debate the legitimacy of the claims outlined by the Occupy movement.
